In a CS environment, THE CLIENT SERVER ENGINE MANAGES ALL ACCESS TO THE DATA. Only the necessary records are sent across the LAN/WAN connection instead of Large File chunks and Index file information which is sent in a peer to peer environment. This PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS:

SPEED INCREASE

CLIENT SERVER drops LAN/WAN traffic substantially. This minimized performance degradation when a lot of users are accessing the DATABASE. It is particularly effective when accessing the database over low bandwidth connections such as a WAN connection. This can increase WAN speed performance up to 300% depending on the WAN bandwidth.

DROPS DATA & BUSINESS VULNERABILITY ALMOST TO NOTHING

With client server, all access to the database is managed by the client server engine. Instead of each client (user) accessing the data, client/user requests are received by the client server engine, which then executes those requests on the server and only sends back the data, which is specifically requested. THE DATA NEVER LEAVES THE SERVER SO IF A PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE A USER IS SENDING OR RECEIVING DATA TO THE DATABASE, THE SERVER AUTOMATICALLY DEFAULTS BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE. THIS PROTECTS THE DATABASES AGAINST DATA CORRUPTION, NETWORK PROBLEMS, ETC. Because Index files are not sent over the LAN/WAN in a Client Server environment, if a station goes down or has a cable/connection problem the index file is NOT corrupted which would occur in a peer to peer situation requiring everyone to exit the product and re-index the file and disrupt day to day business activity which is a MAJOR problem especially if the business is using medical records or Point of Sale (POS) features.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI): If the Client Server capability prevents your system from corrupted database once, it has paid for itself in labor time and custom programming time that is unnecessary. If the Client Server Feature prevents you from having to run diagnostics where the patients and the ENTIRE staff is waiting around just a couple times a year it has paid for itself.
