Saint Paul, MN, October 22, 2011 – Today at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Annual Meeting, the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO®), leader in continuing education and development of new tools and systems, launched and demonstrated the Module II of its online Electronic Health Records course. Slated to be available in January 2012 on the ophthalmology e-learning site ACTIONED, module II focuses on training ophthalmic professionals in the areas of Patient Management, Scheduling, Insurance, Billing, and Financial Management and Reporting. The first EHR course module, released by JCAHPO in 2010, focused on training in the fundamentals of an EHR system, and navigation of electronic medical records.
As JCAHPO President Tyree Carr, MD notes, the EHR series brings high-quality educational content to ophthalmic and clinic management professionals. “These EHR courses are the type of learning experience we work hard to provide to ACTIONED® users who want access to relevant online learning resources. As the federal reimbursement funds for EHR adoption end in October 2012, it is apparent that the cost to adopt a comprehensive EHR system will rise accordingly. It is incumbent upon all clinic managers and owners to bring their staff up-to-speed as quickly as possible on EHR fundamentals.”
Offered as a credit-based course, the EHR education series was created in partnership through an unrestricted educational grant from ophthalmic EHR and practice management software leader Compulink Business Systems, Inc.
As with the first module, module II uses interactive video and data entry simulations to draw distinctions between EHR and paper documentation.
“We congratulate JCAHPO on the successful delivery of these courses,” said Link Wilson, President and CEO, Compulink Business Systems, Inc. “From our 17 years’ experience in ophthalmic EHR implementation, we know firsthand the critical role staff training plays. With the availability of these courses, long before any EHR system is even ordered staff will be able to go online, take the courses and start preparing themselves to move off of paper. This training is going to help every practice be ready to hit the ground running with EHR even before the 2012 deadlines approach.”
The cost for a single EHR course available on ACTIONED is only $10 for members or $15 for non-members, which is a nominal cost compared to clinic-wide EHR implementation.
JCAHPO President Tyree Carr, MD, states that the course will invaluable in the adoption of EHR in practice. “We want clinics to be ahead of the curve on this new maxim in health care. To aid in speedy and efficient adoption of EHR, we are giving complementary training on Module #1 of the EHR Training Course on ACTIONED to all those who registered early to attend JCAHPO’s Annual Continuing Education Program in Orlando. I want to stress the importance of quickly adopting this new and superior method of record keeping, both from the patient perspective and from a cost containment perspective.”
